Recently, on ABC’s the View Barbara Walters and Co- took up the issue of abortion and specifically a woman should have to see an ultrasound before the ‘procedure’ is done. She called the idea “heart-breaking” not because as she admits earlier that there is a heartbeat and that would end but because of the guilt to the mother for hearing the heartbeat before she terminates the rhythm and baby dies. But she said something very powerful that pro-life activist should talk about each time the discussion comes up. She said, that by the time the mother is at the facility she obviously does not want the child. I have stood beside friends who have lost a pregnancy mid way through- and had to stand graveside because those children were wanted. A wanted child in America is named and a funeral is given to honor what could have been. An unwanted child in America gets burned with a salt solution and is sucked down a drainage pipe. And because the mother would feel MORE guilty by hearing a heartbeat we should spare them before their child is chopped up as in a shredder.

It seems liberal land is up in arms about the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s choice to stop funding 19 Planned Parenthood offices. NYT: Uproar as Breast Cancer Group Ends Partnership With Planned Parenthood Pink ribbons have for decades been a symbol of resolve and compassion in the face of the deadly disease of breast cancer. Now, that nearly ubiquitous icon has many women seeing red. WP: Two dozen Senators call on Komen to reverse Planned Parenthood decision The letter is signed by Senators Lautenberg, Murray, Mikulski, Boxer, Cantwell, Gillibrand, Menendez, Wyden, Blumenthal, Shaheen, Begich, merkley, Tester, Akaka, Sanders, (Sherrod) Brown, Leahy, Baucus, Cardin, Feinstein, Franken, Kerry, Begich and Tester signed the letter is testament to how broad the opposition to this decision has really become. UPDATE: The total number of signatories is now 26; the new additions include senators McCaskill, Stabenow, Coons, and Bingaman. Planned Parenthood apparently used the money as a pass through- meaning the money was used to refer women to other clinics for mammograms. Therefore, it was only really a subsidy to those offices since the only real cost of referral is zero. If that was truly the case why would they risk the organization- who seemingly does good [...]

I enjoy reading as I am sure most of you do. Of particular interest has been reading books from the past based on the future. In that spirit, when I came across the book “Running on Empty” by Peter Peterson I figured it was worth a quick read. Unsure as to how the book will conclude I have begun reading; this from the preface in 2004: Less than three short years after America absorbed the double blows of 9/11 and the collapse of the bubble economy, a new mood of triumphalism reemerged in many quarters. Saddam Hussein was dragged from his spider hole and humiliated before the world. Inflation and interest rates remained low while productivity and profits soared. The stock market roared back and investors began reading their statements again. So quick was the rise in manufacturing and consumption that freight backed up on the nation’s railroads and waterways. Yet if it seemed the dawn of another “Morning in America,” many Americans still felt a chill in the air: at what price did America purchase its recovery? Yes, nearly everyone agreed that tax cuts and a big run in federal spending had helped to stimulated the economy. Everyone agreed the Fed had been [...]

The 2010 Dodd-Frank law was sold as a way to prevent future bank bailouts. But so few people believe it that Sheila Bair, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, has embarked on a campaign to convince the markets that next time really will be different. On Friday Ms. Bair sent a letter to Standard & Poor’s, the giant credit-ratings agency. S&P, like most of the financial community, suspects that Washington will open the checkbook again when Wall Street stumbles. Therefore the firm has given the largest financial institutions higher credit ratings to reflect this potential government support. Ms. Bair’s note assures S&P that she will put the wood to big banks and their creditors if they end up in the FDIC’s new resolution process for systemic firms. Therefore, she argues, the giant banks should no longer receive higher ratings, because Uncle Sam isn’t coming to their rescue. We guess the financial crisis really is over when a senior federal regulator feels confident urging downgrades of big banks. And on the merits, if Ms. Bair were the only Washingtonian with a say in this matter, investors might start to believe that the freedom to fail really has been restored. But [...]

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — More than a thousand miles from the labor tumult in Wisconsin — where his name shows up on the signs of protesters and a liberal blogger impersonating him got through to the governor on the phone and said “gotta crush that union!” — the real David H. Koch was greeted rather more warmly here Friday when he officially opened a new cancer research institute bearing his name. Mr. Koch, a billionaire who is perhaps best known for his family’s contributions to conservative causes, got a standing ovation from scientists, Nobel laureates and politicians of various political stripes as he opened the new David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which he gave $100 million to help build. And in a brief, and rare, interview, Mr. Koch, 70, spoke of his hopes for the new center, his prostate cancer and the prank call heard around the world. “It’s a case of identity theft,” Mr. Koch said of the call in which the liberal blogger got through to Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, drew him out about his plans to weaken unions and posted a recording of the call on the Internet, [...]

An editorial by Jordan B. Rickards www.RickardsReview.com The lead story of the March 3, 2011, edition of the Newark Star Ledger, citing the need for New Jersey to reform its prison system in light of the sixty percent recidivism rate for incarcerated criminals, missed the mark entirely. The focus of the article was the unchallenged solution, presented by the Manhattan Institute, to give criminals jobs so they have a legitimate source of income. While this makes for pleasant sounding theory, the practical effect is to reward bad behavior at the expense of the law abiding population. Jobs should go to those people who are most qualified: those of us who work hard, and stayed in school, and obey the law. This is especially so at a time such as this, when jobs are few and far between. A job should be a reward for following appropriate social mores, not a ransom payment to a criminal so he won’t reoffend. A more just and effective way to reduce criminal activity is to address the root of the problem, which is that the cost to commit crimes is simply not high enough. Indeed, in New Jersey, we go out of our way [...]

This morning Senator Jim DeMint suggested in the Opinion section of The Wall Street Journal that Public Broadcasting should go private. While I agree with most of what Senator DeMint is suggesting- I find it short sighted if his only suggestion is to de-fund the government organization. My suggestion is that the company is auctioned off the the highest domestic bidder or even spun off to the public markets. There could be a very strong argument made that PBS could fetch between 2-5 billion dollars in an auction. Not only would this save the $451,000,000 carved out in the latest budget but also the interest associated with carrying this balance since it is an unfunded liability. Further, this money could be used to symbolically pay down part of the national debt including bonds issued years ago with a higher coupon (interest) rate than bonds issued today. Saving an additional several million dollars. Of course liberals will not like the idea. PBS is an unchallenged way to preach at their choir. It also offers the opportunity to hire friends while redistributing wealth. What other station can get away with playing classical music in between monotone voice announcements of the latest in global warming, feminist and affirmative action laced news? To be very clear, [...]

Wisconsin Republican State Senator Glenn Grothman is not the only one concerned about the “smelly” leftist “slobs” who are turning the state capitol into a “pig sty.” For months and months the media disparaged the Tea Party movement as radicals and fringe activists who would be the death of America as we know it. While that debate falls on ideological lines, one thing cannot be disputed. The Tea Party was a clean bunch. Sadly, as we are seeing in Wisconsin, the union protesters being bussed in to protest Gov. Walkers proposed limits to collective bargaining cannot be described that way. From the local Madison Wisconsin Fox affiliate via the Gateway Pundit: It could cost as much as $7.5 million to repair damage protesters have done to the Capitol Building marble say officials in Madison. Fixing posters to the marble with tape and glue appears to have done the bulk of the damage. During testimony Thursday, a representative from the Attorney General’s office said a contractor estimated it would cost $500,000 to remove all of the posters and garbage. He says it would cost $6 million to restore the marble inside of the Capitol building and another $1 million to touch up the marble outside [...]

Say what??? I know its been a while in the grand scheme of the 24 hour news cycle. But if you dig way back in the memory banks, you will remember this past summer that BP was the company with the dysfunctional equipment that was the responsible party for the Deepwater Horizon disaster, better known as the worst oil spill in the history of this nation. So the logical answer to the many months of bungled response and overreaching ban on drilling by the Department of the Interior (defying the ruling of a Louisiana federal judge) would be to award the responsible party with a new drilling contract. Oh that silly Obama administration…. From Reuters: HOUSTON, March 1 (Reuters) – BP Plc, (BP.L) (BP.N) whose Macondo well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico caused the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history last year, co-owns the well that was granted the first deepwater drilling permit since the disaster. BP is Noble Energy Inc’s (NBL.N) partner in the well, holding a 46.5 percent interest, BP said. Noble operates the Santiago well that received a permit from U.S. regulators on Monday to resume drilling in the Mississippi Canyon area of the Gulf, [...]

Say hello to Joseph Maarachli, the child who will now die due to lack of government funding via the All-American blogger The father and relatives of one-year-old Joseph Maraachli wept outside a London courthouse after an emotional Justice Helen Rady upheld the earlier decision of an independent provincial tribunal forcing the baby’s parents to comply with doctors’ orders.
The barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion may be finally reaching its end in the great state of Michigan. In the recent 2010 midterm election, Michigan was part of the red storm that swept the Midwest, taking out liberal state legislators and replacing them with fiscal and social conservative lawmakers. Elections have consequences. From Life News: Michigan could be the next state to ban partial-birth abortions following a Supreme Court decision in April 2007 upholding a federal ban on them. States are banning the abortions to allow local officials to assist federal authorities in enforcing the law and in case the federal law is ever repealed. The Senate Judiciary Committee reported out Senate Bills 160-161 on Tuesday and the bills would prohibit partial birth abortions (SB 160) and provide sentencing penalties for anyone convicted of violating the law (SB 161). Both measures received a 3-1 vote to move on to the next stage of the legislative process — the full state Senate. Senators Rick Jones, Tonya Schuitmaker and Tory Rocca voted for the bills and Sen. Bieda raised a procedural objection and voted against SB 160 and abstained from voting for SB 161. Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing [...]
