Media darling of the 60′s and 70′s Jane Fonda has become best known for her usurping of all things American. Fonda in her younger years actively worked against the United States war effort in Vietnam. But its 2012 you say, what could she be doing now? Her new target appears to be the Constitution of the United States. In a CNN op-ed published yesterday, Fonda along with fellow bra-burners Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan, took aim at the First Ammendment in the wake of the Limbaugh-Sandra Fluke controversy. Limbaugh doesn’t just call people names. He promotes language that deliberately dehumanizes his targets. Like the sophisticated propagandist Josef Goebbels, he creates rhetorical frames — and the bigger the lie the more effective — inciting listeners to view people they disagree with as sub-humans. His longtime favorite term for women, “femi-nazi,” doesn’t even raise eyebrows anymore, an example of how rhetoric spreads when unchallenged by coarsened cultural norms Of course, we are to believe that these women and their organization are not politically motivated (except for like, the deafening silence for similar speech directed from left to right) This isn’t political. While we disagree with Limbaugh’s politics, what’s at stake is the [...]

Recently, on ABC’s the View Barbara Walters and Co- took up the issue of abortion and specifically a woman should have to see an ultrasound before the ‘procedure’ is done. She called the idea “heart-breaking” not because as she admits earlier that there is a heartbeat and that would end but because of the guilt to the mother for hearing the heartbeat before she terminates the rhythm and baby dies. But she said something very powerful that pro-life activist should talk about each time the discussion comes up. She said, that by the time the mother is at the facility she obviously does not want the child. I have stood beside friends who have lost a pregnancy mid way through- and had to stand graveside because those children were wanted. A wanted child in America is named and a funeral is given to honor what could have been. An unwanted child in America gets burned with a salt solution and is sucked down a drainage pipe. And because the mother would feel MORE guilty by hearing a heartbeat we should spare them before their child is chopped up as in a shredder.

It seems liberal land is up in arms about the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s choice to stop funding 19 Planned Parenthood offices. NYT: Uproar as Breast Cancer Group Ends Partnership With Planned Parenthood Pink ribbons have for decades been a symbol of resolve and compassion in the face of the deadly disease of breast cancer. Now, that nearly ubiquitous icon has many women seeing red. WP: Two dozen Senators call on Komen to reverse Planned Parenthood decision The letter is signed by Senators Lautenberg, Murray, Mikulski, Boxer, Cantwell, Gillibrand, Menendez, Wyden, Blumenthal, Shaheen, Begich, merkley, Tester, Akaka, Sanders, (Sherrod) Brown, Leahy, Baucus, Cardin, Feinstein, Franken, Kerry, Begich and Tester signed the letter is testament to how broad the opposition to this decision has really become. UPDATE: The total number of signatories is now 26; the new additions include senators McCaskill, Stabenow, Coons, and Bingaman. Planned Parenthood apparently used the money as a pass through- meaning the money was used to refer women to other clinics for mammograms. Therefore, it was only really a subsidy to those offices since the only real cost of referral is zero. If that was truly the case why would they risk the organization- who seemingly does good [...]

A well meaning christian debate about war will never be settled. But recently- some have started to use the concept of the ‘golden rule’ as to if we should or should not be involved with military conflict. One person even suggested that his reason for voting for Ron Paul was his foreign policy and the Paul position on war which they boiled down to the “Golden Rule which is a euphemism of what Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Suggesting that Jesus would not have us going into war. And of course that’s great and all to love your neighbor as yourself but what this argument is missing from the ostrich view of the world is that this neighbor has a loaded gun and walking towards your house to use it. Besides, how many armies did God Himself destroy? There is a very large difference between guilty life and innocent life. What are your thoughts?

In fact, until the Obama administration stepped in and began apologizing for our actions and bowing to “kings”, we were seen as a country who kicked butt and took names. The simple fact is that Paul comes across as weak and frail with foreign policy. You really think that those who live ONLY to kill as many of us as they can are going to respect a man who wishes to use the “golden rule” as his foreign policy stance? The simple fact is that he simply doesn’t represent America as I have always envisioned it and I have no interest in him being our leader. Source: Reader Comment on Ron Paul

Too interesting to pass up this story! Zookeepers in Toronto, while “fascinated” by male African penguins who appear to be a couple, even displaying signs of mating rituals, plan on splitting up the pair for the sake of captive breeding. In case you are getting this confused with an episode of Parks and Recreation, you aren’t, this is real life: Toronto Star: “They do courtship and mating behaviours that females and males would do,’’ one keeper said in an interview. Those behaviours include making a “braying’’ sound, almost like a donkey, as a mating call. They defend their territory, preen each other, and are constantly standing alone together. In fact when the Star visited the exhibit this week Buddy emerged from the water, followed a few moments later by Pedro. The two huddled together for quite some time.” (Read more) Video here Flashback to Dennis Miller discussing gay penguins on the O’Reilly Factor with Bill O’Reilly. Good stuff right here!

With the election of Barack Obama, the Presidency of the United States has never been weaker. With that in mind I wanted to share a few words from Thomas Jefferson about George Washington. It should be noted that Jefferson served as Washington’s Secretary of State. Fifteen years after Washington’s death- Jefferson had these words to say: His mind was great and powerful, without being of the very first order; his penetration strong, though not so acute as that of a Newton, Bacon, or Locke; and as far as he saw, no judgement was ever sounder. It was slow in operation, being little aided by invention or imagination but sure in conclusion… Perhaps the strongest feature in his character was prudence, never acting until every circumstance, every consideration, was maturely weighed; refraining when he saw a doubt, but when once decided, going through with his purpose whatever obstacles opposed. His integrity was most pure, his justice the most inflexible I have known, no motives of interest or consanguinity, of friendship or hatred, being able to bias his decision. He was indeed, in every sense of the words, a wise, a good and a great man… On the whole, his character [...]

I enjoy reading as I am sure most of you do. Of particular interest has been reading books from the past based on the future. In that spirit, when I came across the book “Running on Empty” by Peter Peterson I figured it was worth a quick read. Unsure as to how the book will conclude I have begun reading; this from the preface in 2004: Less than three short years after America absorbed the double blows of 9/11 and the collapse of the bubble economy, a new mood of triumphalism reemerged in many quarters. Saddam Hussein was dragged from his spider hole and humiliated before the world. Inflation and interest rates remained low while productivity and profits soared. The stock market roared back and investors began reading their statements again. So quick was the rise in manufacturing and consumption that freight backed up on the nation’s railroads and waterways. Yet if it seemed the dawn of another “Morning in America,” many Americans still felt a chill in the air: at what price did America purchase its recovery? Yes, nearly everyone agreed that tax cuts and a big run in federal spending had helped to stimulated the economy. Everyone agreed the Fed had been [...]

REUTERS – A suicide car bomber killed 13 foreign troops in the Afghan capital Kabul on Saturday, the deadliest single ground attack in 10 years of war in Afghanistan. “We can confirm that 13 International Security Assistance Force members have died,” said a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), giving no further details. Earlier, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said three civilians and a police officer had been killed in the attack. Excluding helicopter crashes, it was the deadliest single incident for foreign troops since the war began in 2001. Lethal attacks are relatively rare in heavily guarded Kabul, compared with the south and east of Afghanistan, but Saturday’s killings came less than two months after insurgents launched a 20-hour assault on the U.S. embassy in Kabul. The assault on the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) convoy took place in the Darulaman area in the west of the city, near the national museum. The former royal palace, now in ruins, is also in the area, along with several government departments, and Afghan and foreign military bases. Read the rest here -

The Pentagon says 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles have been launched from U.S. and British ships in the Mediterranean, hitting more than 20 Libyan targets along the Mediterranean coastline. Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, director of the Pentagon’s Joint Staff, told reporters the Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from one British submarine and a number of American destroyers and subs. He said the success of the mission was not immediately clear, adding that additional attacks would commence later. Gortney said the mission has two goals: prevent further attacks by Libyan forces on rebels and other civilians, and degrade the Libyan military’s ability to contest a no-fly zone.
